Setting Career Goals
Now that you know where you want to go, you have to
figure out how you’re going to get there.
The process by which you achieve your ultimate career
goal can be divided into a series of stepping stones or
goals that move you along in the right direction.
Goals can be short-, medium- or long-range in nature and
should be linked to a time frame.
Goals should focus on and point to overall career success
rather than just meeting one’s material needs. Some
examples are:
a. Education
b. Internships and part-time jobs
c. Landing that first job in one’s chosen field
Goals are milestones on the road towards an ultimate aim.
As such they should be seen as tools towards achieving
an end and not as an end in themselves.
You should feel free to modify your goals based on any
new information you acquire. Your Personal Vision can
likewise be adjusted or revised based on new knowledge
or changing circumstances. You should always feel more
comfortable, not less, with the changes compared to
where things stood before.
