What are Aptitudes?
Aptitudes are not one’s
personal interests.
Nor are they acquired skills and knowledge.
Aptitudes are innate abilities or talents. They are inherited
and, as such, are part of your genetic code, your DNA.
Your strong aptitudes point to things you can do that you learn
quickly, since they come naturally to you. Because they come
naturally to you, you enjoy doing them and they require
comparatively little effort on your part. Some people describe
doing things you have the aptitude for as “work that feels more
like fun than like work.”
Aptitudes don’t deteriorate from lack of use but always remain
with you.
In areas where your aptitude is weak (and we all have them), it
doesn’t mean that you can’t learn or do the work.
It will simply require greater effort on your part and can
therefore feel tiring.
What If We Neglect Our Aptitudes?
A person’s strong aptitudes
virtually “cry out” to be used in some way.
When we neglect to use our strong aptitudes, feelings of
restlessness and frustration often arise, particularly as we get
older.
